Triphala, meaning three fruits in Sanskrit, has been a medicinal herb in Ayurvedic treatments since ancient times. It is a unique mixture of three dried fruits. The fruits contained in Triphala are Haritaki ( Terminalia chebula ), Amalaki ( Emblica officinalis ), also called Indian gooseberry and Bibhitaki ( Terminalia bellirica ). In Ayurveda, it is known as Tridoshic Rasayana, a therapeutic agent that balances all three doshas – Kapha, Vata and Pitta. It has the properties to support all three doshas namely (air/space, fire/water, and water/earth). These qualities are believed to enhance strength and immunity and may be applied to the treatment of numerous health conditions.
